Practice note on QWE for in-house counsel – now live on Thomson Reuters Practical Law

The way in which solicitors qualify has changed, and the new regime provides greater opportunities for in-house legal departments in corporates or public sector entities to qualify solicitors and for candidates to consider starting their legal careers working in-house.

This note explores qualifying work experience (QWE), the practical stage of the new route to qualification for solicitors. It examines the advantages of QWE for training providers, the benefits QWE can bring to in-house legal departments, employers’ responsibilities and requirements, trainee competencies and the QWE record. We hope that this proves useful to the sector and helps to achieve the increased diversity and representation the change to the SQE aimed to bring about.
