Ambitious for a better legal future

Collaborative, thoughtful, energetic and excited for the future.

Contact Us

Shaped by our diverse backgrounds and depth of global experience, we help to foster better legal systems that can be shown to be effective and transformative.

Hook Tangaza, founded in 2016 by Alison Hook and Nankunda Katangaza, brings together an international and multidisciplinary team with decades of combined global expertise in the legal, justice and related business sectors. We are not a provider of legal services, though we have qualified lawyers from different jurisdictions in our ranks, working alongside economists and public policy experts. These diverse academic backgrounds and years of work experience shape our view that a fair, open and well-run legal sector can transform economies, businesses, societies and even individual lives, for the better. We love nothing more than working with ambitious organisations and individuals seeking to make a difference. If this sounds like you, then we would love to hear from you.

Our Commitment to a Better Future

Our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

We support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and in particular the seven areas below where we believe Hook Tangaza can make the most meaningful contribution, both through our client work and the way we run our own business. Each section sets out what that means in practice.

Our Services

UN Sustainable Development Goals

UN SDG 4 Quality Education

We work with universities, training providers and regulators on legal education reform, including LawCAB (where we provide operational management), and supporting universities and law schools on the SQE and QWE, the Legal Services Board’s competence project, and the review of Irish legal education. Internally, each team member has a dedicated annual training budget.

UN SDG 5 Gender Equality

We are a 100% female-owned business. Our flexible working arrangements support parents of young children and others with caring responsibilities.

UN SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth

We benchmark our salaries against the market and aim to pay above it. In our project work, we advise on trade, professional services and regional growth – from Myanmar and other international markets.

UN SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities

We help expand access to justice and legal services, supporting people and communities to assert and enforce their rights.

UN SDG 13 Climate Action

We measure and work to reduce our carbon footprint, and our choice of office reflects our landlord’s environmental commitments. Through networks such as ACLT and ACGC, we support efforts to connect climate risk to legal and regulatory risk.

UN SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

The heart of our work – governance and regulatory projects with bodies including LCA, CILEx, the EAC and ICLR. We are active members of the International Bar Association.

UN SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals

We build cross-border networks that share knowledge and capacity, including ACLT, ACGC, AMANI and MRB, and raise awareness of the SDGs among our clients and contacts.
