At Hook Tangaza we believe that more open, connected and enabled professional services sectors and progressive legislative and regulatory environments can transform businesses, economies and lives.

To this end, we align our work with seven of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) –  Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Reduced Inequalities, Climate Change, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and Partnerships for the Goals

The UN SDGs are 17 critical areas to solve economic, social and environmental challenges by 2030. They were preceded by the Millenium Development Goals, which were primarily targeted at developing nations, and aimed to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. The UN SDGs include aspirations for more developed countries, companies, local governments, civil society and individual citizens. All 193 UN Member States have signed up to the UN SDGs

SDGs and ESG

As a company our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy is SDG lead. We have found that this has allowed us to move beyond a purely corporate focus and develop a strategy that is not only beneficial for Hook Tangaza and its partners, but has at its foundation the creation of wider social benefits, that permeate everything we do.

What this means in practice is that the SDGs provide the base, they are what we are trying to achieve, while ESG provides a framework for us to do this.

What does this mean for Hook Tangaza?

We selected the seven goals with which we align in collaboration with our whole team.  We looked at what each goal meant, and then we looked at four ways we could integrate it into our work. These are

Impact – what does it mean, practically, to us that we align with this goal?

Integration – how will we ensure we ‘live’ our commitment to this goal?

SMART goals – setting out specific goals to guide our work and internal organisation.

Communication  – to inspire others

We’ll be exploring in more depth how these goals inform our work over coming weeks. We have found they have given us a framework and structure to work towards the changes we want to see, and helped make us accountable to ourselves. How could they help you? We’d be more than happy to share our experiences – look for the upcoming posts here or get in touch
