Why is Decent Work and Reduced Inequality important?

Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8) plays a pivotal role in driving development and social progress by focusing on sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth. By creating job opportunities, encouraging entrepreneurship, and fostering innovation, SDG 8 not only lifts people out of poverty but also enhances overall living standards. Economic growth, as promoted by SDG 8, provides the necessary resources and stability for social investments and public services, which are fundamental for human development.

Similarly, Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG 10) is crucial for development and social progress because it addresses the issue of inequality within and among countries. By striving to reduce disparities and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone, SDG 10 promotes social cohesion, diminishes social tensions, and fosters a sense of belonging and inclusivity.

When SDG 8 and SDG 10 work in tandem, economic empowerment becomes a catalyst for equitable development. This symbiotic relationship between economic growth and social equality is fundamental for creating sustainable, just, and prosperous societies.

Why have we decided to align with SDG 8 & 10?

Hook Tangaza has intentionally aligned its work with Sustainable Development Goals 8 and 10 because we firmly believe in the importance of fighting inequality and promoting social progress. SDG 8 emphasizes the creation of decent work and sustainable economic growth and we are committed to generating employment opportunities that are not only meaningful but also contribute to the well-being of the communities in which we work.

Additionally, SDG 10’s focus on reducing inequality resonates deeply with our values. We understand the pivotal role of equal opportunities in creating a just society. Of the core pillars of our work is building the capacity of governments, businesses, and institutions. We recognize that empowering these entities is fundamental for improving working conditions at home and abroad. Embracing SDGs 8 and 10 underscores our dedication to not just running a successful business, but also actively contributing to a more equitable and prosperous world.

What do we do to advance decent work and reduce inequality?

As a company, our commitment to promoting decent work begins with being a responsible employer. We cultivate a positive working environment that prioritizes the physical and mental well-being of our team, fostering an atmosphere where all employees can thrive both professionally and personally. This ethos extends to our external business practices, where we engage in ethical and sustainable methods, partnering with likeminded organizations.

As a company we contribute to capacity building by conducting training sessions, workshops, and seminars for business organisations, SMEs and professional bodies – By sharing our knowledge and resources, we aim to assist others in their efforts to enhance workplace environments, fostering economic development, and social harmony.

We have developed LawQWE, an innovative legal careers portal  which supports employers and candidates on early careers in the legal sector. LawQWE aims to unlock a wider range of opportunities across the country for candidates who may struggle to access qualifying work experience to complete their training  – particularly those from low-income households, career switchers or later-life trainees – and also provides support to law firms and other employers to find suitable paralegals and trainees.

Our trade-related projects aim to bridge the gap between nations of varying capacities by providing essential training, manuals, and reports to trade negotiators, fostering fairer trade terms and thereby reducing global economic disparities.
