This included examination of its conformity with East African Community model arrangements, recommendations for improvements in its construction and drafting, and provision of training for advocates in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda on the proposed new recognition arrangements.
Our client needed to update its governance framework in light of the Legal Services Act 2007 and the new Internal Governance Rules from the oversight regulator, the Legal Services Board. We provided an in-depth analysis of their current governance structures and benchmarked them against international and domestic good practice and made recommendations for a new framework. The client implemented all our recommendations and successfully met the requirements of the new rules.
This work involved extensive consultation both within and beyond the legal sector. The outcome of these reviews has provided the Authority with a strong basis for developing its future policy in these areas and has considerably guided their approach to regulatory change
The primary objective of the project was to assist the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to initiate an AML/CFT regulatory role. The project aimed to help LSK to develop its regulatory capacity and supervise lawyers from an AML/CFT perspective.
